About Us
Our History
In June of 1999, several greyhound adoption volunteers decided it was time to
form an organization to promote greyhound adoption and to find homes for
greyhounds that could not be placed in the Wichita Greyhound Park adoption
program. This includes overflows from the racing kennels and greyhounds rescued
from animal shelters and private homes. The name chosen for the organization was
Race The Wind Greyhound Adoption. Race The Wind Greyhound Adoption, Inc. was
incorporated as a nonprofit organization on August 27, 1999.
Legal Stuff
After Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws were written, the Application for
Recognition of Exemption Under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code
was submitted to the Internal Revenue Service on October 26, 1999. On January
20, 2000, Race The Wind Greyhound Adoption, Inc. received our exempt status.
The Kennel
The organization was granted permission to house some of our greyhounds in the
Wichita Greyhound Park adoption kennel. Others were housed in a private kennel
outside of Wichita. In September 2001, the Kansas Gaming and Racing Commission
approved Race The Wind Greyhound Adoption, Inc. to administer the adoption
program at Wichita Greyhound Park. The organization leases the kennel and has an
office located in the Wichita Greyhound Park lobby area. Management of Race The
Wind Greyhound Adoption, Inc. consists of one officer and a governing board of
five members.
